The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been released from care, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision outside Lagos on the 29th of December, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two of his valued colleagues.
The sports star had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, representatives had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on X that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deceased friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” Omotosho said.
Those who lost their lives were identified as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the athlete was heartbroken and full of emotions over the passing of his two dear friends.”
His release from the hospital comes as the sports world offered condolences for the fighter in the following the devastating accident.
