Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Mourners assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.
“She was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Service details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told a news show that she also intended to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
