The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
