The England midfielder Needs to Eliminate the Nonsense to Secure a Central Role In Tuchel.

If Jude Bellingham hopes to earn his place into England’s top team, the smart move to do away with the nonsense. His reaction when he saw that he was going up after a match of inconsistency in Tirana fell short of expectations.

"I’d rather not blow it out of proportion but I stick to my words 'attitude matters' and respect for the players who enter the game," stated Tuchel. "Decisions are made and you must accept them when you're on the field."

The midfielder must understand. It was unnecessary for a tantrum. The captain had recently scored to make the national team 2-0 up in a dead rubber match, the game had six minutes to go and he, following an inconsistent display, was just shown a yellow for fouling Armando Broja. It was not a debatable decision. Indeed it would have been unwise for Tuchel to not substitute him because there was a risk the midfielder would make himself ineligible of the initial fixture of the World Cup by picking up a second yellow card.

Turning the Spotlight to Himself

But Bellingham drew all eyes toward himself. It was impossible to miss the 22-year-old’s annoyance when he clocked that he was going to make way for Morgan Rogers. He threw his arms up and even though he exchanged a handshake on his way to the touchline it was obvious that the manager was not impressed.

This represents the hurdle facing Bellingham. He applauded his teammate for providing the assist for the captain to nod home his second goal, but everything else was harmful to his cause. It is not as if arguing was going to alter the decision. Tuchel has talked so much about respecting team hierarchies and the value of behaving correctly.

Facing Examination

He, omitted from last month’s squad, is being watched carefully upon his return to the squad this month. Essentially he has been on trial and his actions haven't benefited him through his behavior to being taken off as the national team rounded off a perfect qualifying campaign by defeating a tough opposition from the Albanian team.

The Coach's Plan

It means it's unclear on whether England function at their best when Bellingham plays. The evidence here was not definitive. There was experimentation by the coach at the start. He has given the squad organization and direction in recent months, using a holding player, a central midfielder, a playmaker and out-and-out wingers, but the approach changed in this match. Quansah was made his England debut, the midfielder made his first start at this level and the positioning of Stones as a makeshift midfielder gave a faint echo to Manchester City’s team that won three trophies.

Mixed Performance

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He set up a shot for Eze in the latter period but often looked overly eager to shine. Several poorly executed passes. An unnecessary confrontation with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. The team looked disjointed during most of the second period. An opportunity for Albania came after he lost the ball cheaply. His caution was shown after he lost the ball to Broja and fouled the attacker.

Substitutes Decide

In the end the squad's strength was decisive. The coach brought on Phil Foden, who looked more naturally fitted to the spot in which Bellingham operated during the first half, and Bukayo Saka. Later Saka delivered a set-piece for Harry Kane to break the deadlock. It highlighted that dead-ball situations are going to be vital next summer.

Bridge Still Stands

Nevertheless, the focus was on Bellingham. The brilliance of Rashford's cross for Kane's goal was somewhat overlooked due to the fuss of the player change. At the end, all eyes were on him. Tuchel walked up from behind and guided the player to acknowledge the away supporters. Their relationship is not broken. The coach isn't ready to discard Bellingham yet. Yet whether the coach is prepared to give him the central position is not guaranteed.
