A individual charged with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told communication data and information recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported investigations and continues to be open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to know," she added.

The jury was told that through emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a bid to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, advised the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the months before the trip to Rothley, Leicestershire, in December 2024.

The court learned correspondence between the two accused, in November 2024, considering endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from utensils at a dining venue.

"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a message which stated: "We find ourselves sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our lights out similar to private investigators.
