Palestinian-American Adolescent Liberated After 270 Days in Israel's Custody

A Palestinian-American teenager who spent 270 days in Israeli detention without being charged was released.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim was fifteen years old during his detention in February throughout the West Bank territory, where he was visiting from his Florida home for allegedly throwing stones toward Israeli settlers, allegations he repeatedly contested.

The US state department said it welcomed the teenager's freedom.

Mohammed, now 16, required hospitalization right after being freed, according to close relatives.

Family described him as visibly pale and thin, while battling health issues contracted in captivity.

In a statement, family spokesperson expressed the family's "tremendous relief".

Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "enduring a dreadful, continuous nightmare" during the entire detention period.

"Currently, we're concentrating on ensuring Mohammed receives prompt healthcare necessary for his recovery following exposure to harsh conditions and brutal treatment over several months."

American authorities said it would continue to provide consular support for the Ibrahim family.

Several congressional representatives had signed a letter to the state department and President Donald Trump, urging greater action to release him.

Mr Ibrahim, with four children who runs an ice cream business from Florida, previously claimed his son only confessed regarding stone throwing after being assaulted by soldiers.

He had not seen or spoken to Mohammed since the arrest, learning information solely what had happened to him through judicial records.

He stayed absent formal charges at Ofer detention facility throughout the occupied territory.

It is also home to mature inmates, featuring prisoners sentenced regarding severe security violations including killings.

An estimated 350 Palestinian minors in security custody currently imprisoned in Israel, per correctional service statistics.

Many have never been charged along with monitoring agencies, including UN bodies, say some have suffered mistreatment and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, Mr Kadur said the family would also continue fighting demanding accountability for their family member family member Sayfollah.
