Man Who Approached Ariana Grande on the occasion of Premiere Barred from Singapore

An Australian man who vaulted over a barricade and touched celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.

The individual, 26, was given a sentence to nine days in detention for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the country's border control told news outlets.

He forced his way beyond security and rushed toward the celebrity, who was present at the Asian debut for the film on 13 November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.

He has a background of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including rushing the stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in this summer.

The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.

The singer has discussed suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in the English city in May 2017 killed 22 people and injured hundreds.

Throughout the court proceedings, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut twice, according to regional reports.

He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Event security intercepted him and restrained him.

The man subsequently shared recordings expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "free."

Police detained him the following day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.

The District Judge the magistrate was cited by Channel News Asia as remarking that the man sought attention, commenting that he was incorrect to believe he would not suffer any consequences.

The singer has not spoken about the incident.

The co-star spoke about the situation to the press, remarking that she "only aimed to make sure my co-star was secure."

"I believe he didn't intend us harm, but you never know with such situations, and I sought to make sure that she was OK. That was my initial reaction," she commented.
