The celebrated British actress Dame Helen, currently holder of an Academy Award, four Baftas, three Golden Globes, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, is poised to earn an additional major award to her shelf: the Cecil B DeMille Globes' lifetime honor.
Dame Helen, eighty, previously honored as a dame during 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will accept this honor during a presentation on 8 January, just prior to the main Golden Globes take place, within a ceremony promoted by the Golden Globes as Golden Eve.
This will also include the bestowal of the Globes’ Carol Burnett award for small-screen contributions, whose winner remains unannounced. The prior year’s honorees featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.
“Helen Mirren is a powerhouse performer, and her professional journey is truly exceptional,” stated the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft constantly motivate numerous actors and audiences alike. It’s a tremendous privilege to present her with the DeMille prize.”
Mirren gained prominence in the 1970s via important performances in theater in the West End of London and through the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.
During the nineties, her prominent part in the crime series Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase even more. Other key films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.
She won an Oscar for her role as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a character she reprised in 2013 in The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play regarding the encounters involving the monarch and prime minister Thatcher, a performance for which she earned a Tony back in 2015.
Golden Globe nominations will be declared December 8, with Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
