A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season

The winter break present a plethora of pastimes much better than scanning the headlines: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and employing patience techniques to avoid snapping at family members. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling news items emerged over the festive period, and if you missed a few, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
